Start date: February 1, 2025

End Date: September 30, 2025 (with potential for permanent position)

Hours: 4 to 5 days a week, some weekends required, flexible hours

Location: Delta Chamber of Commerce, 6201 60 Ave, Delta, BC V4K 4E2

 

Job Overview:

The Delta Chamber of Commerce, a not-for-profit organization, has operated the Delta Visitor Center for over 20 years on behalf of the City of Delta. As a key resource hub for visitors, the Delta Visitor Centre (DVC) plays a key role in promoting the community, the province and tourism opportunities, as part of Destination BC’s Visitor Services program.

 

We are looking for a passionate and skilled Office and Visitor Center Manager who excels in both office management and delivering exceptional visitor services. This dynamic role combines office administration, team management, and event participation while overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Visitor Center. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and leadership skills, enabling them to provide exceptional customer service and promote community engagement.

 

In addition to managing the visitor experience, you will support the Delta Chamber team by maintaining efficient administrative systems and ensuring seamless operations across both the Chamber and Visitor Center. You will lead a small team of Visitor Information Counsellors, implement effective office procedures, handle various administrative tasks, and contribute to the Chamber's broader initiatives.

 

This role requires flexibility, including occasional weekend work, with the potential for the position to become permanent following the initial term.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Visitor Engagement and Service Delivery
    • Host the Delta Visitor Centre on selected weekends, providing information and guidance, especially to cyclists and active transportation users.
    • Source & update, digital and print visitor materials (brochures, maps, guides, etc.) based on visitor interests.
    • Serve as the first point of contact for visitors, Chamber members, and guests, offering friendly, professional assistance.
    • Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and provide general office support efficiently
    • Maintain inventory for Visitor Services supplies in coordination with the Chamber’s Event and Admin Coordinator.
    • Ensure the Visitor Centre operates efficiently, meeting all standards and targets outlined by BC Visitor Network.

 

  • Program & Staff Development
    • Lead staff training, creating an inclusive and supportive environmental for Visitor Centre personnel.
    • Manager a team of Visitor Information Counsellors.
    • Create reports, presentations, and visitor information resources.
    • Pursue certification as a TVIC (Tourism Visitor Information Centre) trainer and possibly a SuperHost trainer.

 

  • Reporting and Budgeting:
    • Track Visitor Interactions and engagement, preparing monthly reports for Destination BC.
    • Oversee monthly schedules and budgets, ensuring all activities align with organizational goals.
    • Monitor Visitor Services-related expenses and assist with event budgeting.

 

  • Community Engagement and Event Participation:
    • Identify, register for, and attend visitor-facing events as per annual planning.
    • Represent the Visitor Centre at community events, sharing local tourism information and distributing promotional materials.
    • Manage event calendar, ensuring proper staffing and resources.
    • Coordinate volunteers for events as needed.

 

  • Marketing & Social Media:
    • Manage event listings across the Visitor Centre’s social media platforms.
    • Promote events and visitor destinations through Visitor Center social media, creating engaging posts to drive attendance.
    • Curate and organize a photo library for marketing purposes.

 

  • Office and Administrative Support:
    • Maintain the physical appearance of Delta Visitor Centre, including exterior and interior upkeep.
    • Manage boardroom bookings coordinating the setup and supplies for meetings and events.
    • Coordinate all administration related to Certificates of Origin.
    • Process account payments and follow up outstanding accounts receivables.
    • Maintain inventory for event and office supplies in coordination with the Chamber’s Event and Admin Coordinator.
    • Provide event support at Delta Chamber events and activities.
    • Assist with administrative tasks for the Executive Director and Member Engagement & Events Manager as required.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

 Education & Experience:

    • Minimum Grade 12 education required; post-secondary training in tourism, hospitality, business or a related field is preferred.
    • Experience in tourism, customer service, hospitality, or the non-profit sector is a significant asset.
    • Experience leading a team of youth or volunteers is a significant asset.
    • Entrepreneurial experience is a plus.

 

  • Skills & Attributes:
    • Local Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Delta’s attractions, events and tourism services is essential. Familiarity with other Lower Mainland communities is an asset.
    • Customer Service Excellence: Superior interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on providing exceptional in-person service to visitors and residents.
    • Leadership: Previous supervisory or management experience in a tourism-related environment.
    • Language: Fluent in English (written and spoken); conversational/comprehension-level Punjabi, Hindi, Mandarin, Cantonese, and/or French is an asset
    • Organizational Skills: Strong time-management and multitasking abilities, with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
    • Self-Starter: Ability to work independently, take initiative, and proactively address challenges in creative and urgent manner.
    • Tech-Savvy: Proficient in Microsoft 365, CRM software, and social media tools (Canva and Meta suite experience is a plus).
    • Flexibility: Availability to work a variety of shifts including weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Regular weekend work will be required.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Valid BC Driver’s License and access to a vehicle for daily work activities. You must be confident to drive throughout Delta.
